The Bunbury Rotary Club will celebrate its 80th birthday on Saturday, highlighting its many years of service to the community.

Club president Michelle Piotrowski said she was thrilled to be a part of the milestone celebration.

“It is quite amazing and I’m very fortunate that it has fallen in my presidential year,” Mrs Piotrowski said.

“I’ve been able to embrace that history of Rotary and also it gives me the opportunity to look back over that history.

“I’m really proud to be a part of it.”

Mrs Piotrowski said she initially got involved because she wanted to find a way to give back to the community.

“I’ve only been involved in Rotary a few years now but it is such an amazing group of people,” Mrs Piotrowski said.

“Some of the projects and things we donated just in the past 12 months has been amazing.”

Past Bunbury Rotary Club president Ross Ranson said he had been involved in the club for more than 20 years.

“I think the most important thing is the interaction with the members within the club and the opportunity to contribute to the community,” Mr Ranson said.

“To be involved with the construction of this building (Bunbury Regional Entertainment Centre) alone was a really exciting part of my life.

“Also the building of a charity home and we funded a set of twins with cerebral palsy to go to Austria to a special clinic and that was quite expensive, but that’s what our club raises money for and we love giving it back to the community in anyway we can.”

The club has worked on various projects such as establishing Foodbank in Bunbury, providing money for the first jaws of life in Bunbury, building a house to raise money for Polio Plus and helping establish the Eaton scout camp.
