Safety is all our responsibility

South West traffic officer-in-charge Sgt Craig ClarkeSouth Western Times

We’ll help you be safe this Christmas – but help us help you.

Over the Christmas period all emergency services will be working tirelessly to keep everyone safe while travelling on the roads within the South West.

Police will be patrolling and interacting with drivers to ensure all are being safe and manage to celebrate the holiday period sensibly and responsibly.

We will be using intelligence-led tactics and local knowledge of hotspots to detect people who are driving under the influence of drugs or alcohol during the festive period.

What we want is for drivers to keep in mind the fatal five contributors to serious and fatal crashes–drink/drugs, speed, not wearing seatbelts, distraction and fatigue.

It’s the responsibility of everyone, not just the driver, to make sure these principles are adhered to.

Remember, that extra drink is not worth it.

We’ve seen the effects of drink and drug driving – they are devastating!

Please think, plan and reflect before you drive.

By doing the right thing you will be helping the police to help you have an uneventful time on the roads.

If you suspect someone is driving while unfit to do so, please report it immediately on 131 444 or Crime Stoppers.

Help us to help you.
