SWFL 2022: Bunbury Bulldogs outclass Eaton Boomers in 37-point win, recording seventh win for the season

Bunbury Bulldogs remain unbeaten at the top of the table after recording their seventh win of the season, this time defeating the Eaton Boomers by 37 points. The Boomers and Bulldogs went head to head at Glen Huon Reserve on Sunday in round 9 of the 2022 SWFL. In an even start, both teams were quick to apply the pressure, although Bunbury managed to hold a one-goal advantage early on. As the Boomers continually drove the ball forward, converting became an early struggle, with a number of behinds scored as Bunbury built up a lead following two majors from Jayen Farrant, along with a further goals from Dylan Partridge and Jedd Brennan. At quarter time, Bunbury led 4.1 (25) to Eaton’s 1.5 (11), with Thomas Shanahan the sole goal-kicker for the Boomers. The second quarter saw Bunbury extend their lead with an early goal from Jett Rigby, although Eaton managed their second goal of the afternoon via Tanner Allen. However, Eaton’s struggle to convert in front of goal haunted them once again with a flurry of behinds scored as Bunbury continued building their lead. Despite an impressive goal from the 50m line via Joel Houghton, Eaton trailed Bunbury by 17 points at half-time. Following the main break, it seemed Eaton were ready and raring to make a comeback thanks to an early goal from Karl Collard. However, Bunbury maintained control with the likes of Patrick Farrant, Dylan Heasman and Tyson Wood seemingly everywhere around the contest. A four-goal haul surge Jesse Kirwen, Jethro Barraclough, Randall Hodgson and Fraser Gilchrist saw the Bulldogs hold strong to lead 11.4 (70) to 4.9 (33) at the final change. The final quarter saw the contest reach a bit of a stalemate as both teams stepped up the intensity and put the pressure on each other early on. As Eaton suffered a number of missed opportunities up forward, Bunbury’s strong defensive approach helped seal the victory, keeping their undefeated streak alive for another week. At the final siren, Bunbury took the win 12.7 (79) to Eaton’s 5.12 (42). Heasman, Wood and Patrick Farrant were named among Bunbury’s best, while the likes of Gregory Humphries, Jayme Osiejak and Mitchell Kings were among Eaton’s best.
