SWFL 2022: Fitness and discipline the key for new Boomers coach Chris Kinninmont

Chris Kinninmont’s dream of becoming a SWFL senior coach is now a reality, following his appointment at the Eaton Boomers last week.
Affectionally known as “Kinners”, Kinninmont guided the SWFL to championship glory at the Nutrien Ag Solutions country football championships in Perth earlier this year.
While buzzing in the days following the announcement, the Boomers coach has made it clear there will be some key themes during pre-season training.
“If you ask any player, they all say they want to win a premiership — but they do not come easy,” Kinninmont said.
“Just ask Matt Jamieson, Sam Lewis or the Rodgers boys at Augusta-Margaret River. You have got to be able to work your bum off and that probably starts prior to Christmas.
“They have got to be prepared to have a strong hit out. We will be having a bit of fun as well, as it will not all be about getting down and dirty.”
The Boomers are likely to clock up many kilometres in the legs during the pre-season in a bid to return to finals football.
Following Kinninmont’s appointment, speculation about his son Reid’s playing future began, given he is one of the SWFL’s biggest rising stars.
While he admits it would be lovely to coach his son at the Boomers, Kinninmont made it clear he will not pressure the Lions utility to reconsider his plans in any way.
“Reid is going to go up to East Perth (WAFL) and will do a pre-season there until at least Christmas,” he said.
“If that does not work out, of course I would try and get him to play with us.
“However at the end of the day, he is an adult and will make his own decision.
“Reid has a few mates at HBL as he has come through their junior system. I would love to have him play under me, as it was fantastic when we were with the SWFL.
“It was a great experience for both of us.”
