SWFL 2022: WAFC officially completes investigation on behalf of WACFL and SWFL, report made confidential

The West Australian Football Commission has officially concluded its investigation on behalf of the WACFL and SWFL into a range of incidents earlier this season, making 10 recommendations from its findings. The incidents, which centred around several parties — including the South Bunbury women’s team, South Bunbury Football Club and SWFL — caused a high degree of angst to all concerned. Findings and recommendations from the report were presented at a league meeting in Bunbury on Thursday night. In a written statement, the WAFC outlined the entire report would remain confidential citing sensitive information — although they did stipulate any information released from it would now be at the direction of the SWFL. “The South West Football League are committed to working with all of our clubs and stakeholders to adopt the recommendations outlined in the report to ensure we provide the best environment for men and women,” SWFL president Barry Tate said in a statement. “South Bunbury has shown through this process that they aren’t a racist or sexist club. We can all learn from this as a collective as this could happen to any club in the future so we need to be very proactive and work with our clubs.” South Bunbury Football Club echoed the same sentiments, accepting the report’s findings while standing by their club ethos. “We proudly stand by our club ethos and are in no way a Racist or Sexist club, which we are also accepting of the report findings of this nature.” the statement read. “Our club will continue on its path of cultural awareness education and also continue to create an inclusive environment for all who play their part at our club.”
