SWFL 2023: Harvey Bulls look to extend winning streak to fourth win, South Bunbury & Bunbury to lock horns

After dispatching Dunsborough Sharks by 46 points last weekend, the Harvey Bulls will be looking to continue forging ahead with a run of convincing victories this weekend. The Bulls will be hitting the road to Kelly Park on Saturday, where they will meet Carey Park during the 10th round of the 2023 SWFL women’s season. Currently sitting in second place on the ladder with a 6-1 record, the Bulls have been enjoying a solid run of victories in recent weeks, keeping their opposition to scoring one goal or less. However, Carey Park are beginning to emerge as a potential finals contender after showing resilience against Eaton in their five-goal victory at Glen Huon Reserve last weekend. The win has placed the Panthers in fourth spot on the ladder with a 4-4 record going into the match, which will likely be gritty and physical in nature. Meanwhile, Hands Oval will set the stage for the traditional Bunbury derby when South Bunbury and Bunbury go head-to-head on Sunday. Fresh off getting a big win against Donnybrook last weekend, South Bunbury will look to notch a second consecutive win but will likely face a tough challenge against the Bulldogs, who return from a bye. While South Bunbury managed to shake things up during their match against Donnybrook last weekend, Bunbury will be going into the match with three wins on the trot prior to having a bye last weekend. While Harvey Brunswick Leschenault have shown an improvement in form in recent weeks, the Lions will face an uphill battle when they host the returning Busselton at Brunswick Oval. Strong performances from the likes of Shelby Humphries, Giaan Evans, Zoe Roberts and Katie Wilsonham helped the Lions notch a 44-point victory but their luck will be put to the test when they try to be the second team to score against Busselton, who continue to reign supreme atop the ladder with a 7-0 record. The Magpies, affectionately known as the “Hot-Pies”, have a strong hold over the competition having only conceded a total of eight points for the season so far — against the Harvey Bulls in round six. After falling short against South Bunbury on home turf last weekend, Donnybrook will be looking to return to VC Mitchell Park with a vengeance with they take on Collie Eagles. The Dons, who have hit a slump in form in recent weeks, fell victim to kicking inaccuracy under pressure during their nine-point loss to the Tigers last weekend. Despite strong showings from the likes of Jade McGurk, Lily McGurk, Tia Holt and Jessica Verbrugge over the past few rounds, the Dons will need to go full steam ahead from the outset to gain an early advantage. On the other hand, Collie will continue their quest to notch their first win since the team returned to competition after being kept goalless by HBL last weekend.
