SWFL 2023: HBL Lions keen to start building winning streak after securing top five spot

After clinching a spot in the top five following their 5.5 (35) to 2.4 (16) win over Carey Park, the Harvey Brunswick Leschenault Lions will be out to build momentum towards the finals this weekend. During this weekend’s Indigenous round, the Lions are set to host Bunbury at Brunswick Oval on Saturday. Boasting a 5-6 record, HBL have shown improvement throughout the season so far and managed some convincing victories along the way. After booting four unanswered goals during the opening stages of their match against Carey Park last weekend, the Lions will be looking to replicate that dominant performance against Bunbury, who return from a bye. Bunbury are currently in a good position to feature in the finals again, sitting third on the ladder with an 8-2 record. During the Lions and the Bulldogs’ last meeting in round three, Bunbury led from the outset to win 7.2 (44) to 0.1 (1). Carey Park will be looking to bounce back from their 19-point loss in a big way when they take on the Collie Eagles at Collie Recreation Ground. Since holding off Eaton by five goals in round nine, the Panthers have hit a slump in form with tough losses to the likes of Harvey Bulls, Bunbury and now the Lions. While the Panthers continually put up a solid fight, driving the ball forward has proved a bit of a challenge after being kept to two goals in each of their last three matches. Meanwhile, Collie continue on their quest to notch a win after being kept scoreless by the Harvey Bulls last weekend. The last time the two sides met, Carey Park quickly took control of the round three contest to win 7.10 (52) to 1.0 (6). After being kept scoreless against the ever-dominant Busselton last weekend, Eaton will be looking to avenge their defensive efforts when they take on South Bunbury, who return from a bye, at Hands Oval. While Eaton put on enough pressure to keep Busselton to just 8.9 (57) for the match, they struggled driving the ball forward. The last time Eaton and South Bunbury met was in round three, where Eaton edged out the Tigers by four points in an exciting contest. On Sunday, Busselton will be looking to notch their 11th straight win when they travel to Dunsborough Playing Fields to go head to head with the Dunsborough Sharks, who will look to show resilience after being kept to one point by Donnybrook last weekend.
