SWFL 2023: Reigning premiers keen to bounce back following surprise Carey Park loss
Augusta-Margaret River coach Matt Jamieson knows exactly where his side went wrong during Saturday’s upset 12.9 (81) to 8.6 (54) away loss against Carey Park.
There were no excuses from the two-time premiership coach, who paid credit to the Panthers’ hunger throughout the game.
“I was probably just a little disappointed that we took a little bit of time to follow instructions through,” Jamieson said.
“It took us a couple of quarters instead of one to settle into the tempo of the game.
“We were doing a few things which probably enhanced their pressure a little bit more — and were unable to hit targets when coming out of the back half into the corridor.
“Unfortunately for us, they were able to spread and use the ball very well going forward, which led to them scoring quite quickly in that third quarter.
“This 10-12 minute period was the game, it was pretty even apart from that.”
Jamieson knows Eaton will be driving down to Gloucester Park on Saturday with a spring in their step, given the fact coach Chris Kinninmont is beginning to turn things around.
“Inconsistencies are going to come with such a high turnover of players,” he said.
“It’s just a matter of time for Kinners in terms of persevering (for victories). I heard him on the radio the other day speaking about winning quarters and moments.
“For us, I think the response will be quite strong. We are just looking forward to putting together our brand of footy this week and let it do the talking.”
Despite going down by 57 points against the Harvey Bulls on Sunday at Glen Huon Reserve, Kinninmont’s side displayed plenty of heart against a genuine premiership favourite.
The Eaton coach is committed to giving young players with positive attitudes a chance to shine at senior level, with Kade O’Dine — a skilful colts player — among the best players.
