Templeton’s perspective a real asset for regional players

For any South West-based player to have a solid crack at WAFL or WAFLW level in Perth, they need to either relocate to Perth or spend countless hours in their car. However, regional-based players with Matt Templeton’s East Fremantle WAFLW squad can take heart knowing their coach knows exactly what they are going through, given the fact Templeton himself is based in Australind. The Sharks, along with WAFLW counterparts Swan Districts, will take on a combined SWFL women’s team at Hands Oval on Saturday and Templeton believes the carnival will benefit all sides. “I thought it was a good opportunity not only for the girls from the South West playing for East Fremantle, but also for the girls from the South West side to really challenge themselves against good quality opposition,” he said. “For us, it was an opportunity to get away for a camp and bonding weekend, but also play some quality football against two good opponents. “It will be a homecoming for our girls who actually live down here and commute up to East Fremantle. I am very pleased the South West and Swan Districts jumped on board with the idea, as it has worked out really well.” Templeton praised two of his SWFL products — Larissa Versaci and Doma Fedele — who have in many ways forged a positive path for others to follow. “Even if she (Larissa) is carrying a minor injury, you cannot get her to slow down or stop,” Templeton said. “She is always putting her best foot forward and that is infectious. “And you have a look at Doma, she is one of many girls who have come back and helped raised the standard of South West footy.” SWFL coach Maxwell Jetta has named an initial squad of 17 for the carnival. However, more players could be added to it in coming days: Gemma Wharton, Jessica Ruland, Katie-Jayne Grieve, Kandice Hart, Maddy Obal, Jessica Verbrugge, Sarina Tassone, Bethany Bond, Trinity Brown, Michelle Mullins, Isabella Hancock, Rachel Tilbrook, Emma Borinelli, Charli Wicksteed, Kate Fielding, Michelle Oliver, Karyn Beeson.
