Weewah is in box seat

Dylan Egerton-Green could add another feature victory to his growing collection at Gloucester Park on Friday night if he can guide Weewah to glory in the $50,000 Perth Plasterboard Centre 3YO Diamond Classic Pace (2130m). The Harvey-born and raised reinsman has enjoyed an unprecedented season and given the draw and horse, he has every right to feel confident. Weewah, a talented Kiwi from the Greg and Skye Bond stable, has won two of her last three and typically performs well when she is able to start strongly. However the main obstacle standing in the three-year-old’s way appears to be Double Expresso, who is arguably one of the best fillies in WA. Having won or placed in 17 of her 18 starts, she has maintained an impeccable record to date and will go in as a warm favourite. In maybe somewhat of a surprise, Double Expresso was overrun in the home straight by Blockjorg, who also features in tomorrow night’s feature, at Gloucester Park on May 12. Given the fact she was coming off a solid run in the WA Oaks 11 days earlier, it could be argued Double Expresso was a little weary in the closing stages — but given a solid rest, the filly should be in the mix at the business end. North Boyanup’s Justin Prentice will also be hoping for a solid showing from his rising star Alta Louisa, who has placed or won in three of her four career starts. Piloted by Gary Hall Jun. on the rail, she has the ability to set a hot pace early, which could make for a grandstand finish. Aiden De Campo’s mare Millwood Molly has also faced another setback while preparing to return in the Simmonds Steel F and M FFA Pace (2130m) and was scratched from the card yesterday. She was set to race two weeks ago, but was scratched due to an abscess-related issue with her feet.
