Win propels Bulldogs into fourth spot

Bunbury secured fourth spot on the SWFL women’s table following Sunday’s tense 6.3 (39) to 4.8 (32) win over Donnybrook at Payne Park. Although the loss meant the Dons’ hopes of playing finals in their inaugural season were dashed, there is every chance they will make amends in 2021, given how well they have gelled as a team. Led by the presence of Courtney Bayliss, the Bulldogs raced out to an 18-point half-time lead, before the Dons made a brave fightback. Despite receiving plenty of attention, Dons senior figure Fleur Parker and Carla Ward were everywhere as the visitors pulled to within two points late in the third term, after a goal to skipper Kirryn Scallan. However with Bunbury coach Glenn Obal urging them on, the Bulldogs dictated the pace of the game late in the final term, which ensured they remained alive in the hunt for premiership glory. At the Harvey Recreation Ground, the Harvey Bulls came from behind to beat Busselton 1.8 (14) to 1.7 (13), which ensured they finished second. On Saturday at Hands Oval, South Bunbury warmed up for the finals with a crushing 19.9 (123) to 0.1 (1) win over bottom-placed Carey Park. Bethany Bond shone for South and booted five goals.
