Teen dead, six more in hospital after alleged overtaking manoeuvre results in horror crash in Melbourne

A teenager has died and multiple others have been hospitalised following a horror crash in Melbourne’s west. Initial investigations suggest a blue Honda CRV, carrying four teenage boys, allegedly tried to overtake a car but misjudged the distance while speeding and collided with two vehicles on Hopkins Rd in Truganina about 9.15pm on Thursday. A 17-year-old Kurunjang teenager died at the scene. Three other passengers from the Honda, all boys aged in their teens, were taken to hospital with serious injuries. The driver of the Honda, an 18-year-old Williams Landing man, was taken to hospital with minor injuries. In the second vehicle, a 23-year-old man from Melbourne’s Tarneit, was taken to hospital with minor injuries. Two women, 18, were in the third vehicle - a red sedan - when the Honda CRV collided head-on. “I was just like: ‘there is no way this had just happened, where did they care come from?’,” Marina Ivanovska told 9News. Ms Ivanovska was driving her car with her cousin in the passenger seat. The women were taken to hospital with minor injuries, with the Ms Ivanovska suffering a graze on her hand and bruising in her abdomen. Victoria Police Assistant Commissioner Glenn Weir on Friday said the Honda driver was in breach of his red P-plate license condition, as he was carrying more passengers in the car than allowed. A major crash investigation continues to determine the circumstances surrounding the collision. “Detectives are keen to speak with anyone in the area prior to the collision,” a statement from Victoria police said.
