Perth residents are urged to make the most of the sunny weekend weather before another significant cold front hits the city.
Western Australia has spent the week recovering from one of the strongest storms on record, which left a trail of destruction and more than 135,000 homes without power.
As the weekend approaches, earlier fears of a storm once again slamming the metropolitan area have waned as a system that was expected to bring wind and rain weakens.
Weather experts at the Bureau of Meteorology are anticipating warm conditions in Perth for most of the weekend, with temperatures set to hit a warmer 22C.
Skies are expected to remain clear and sunny through the weekend ahead of a small drizzle on Sunday night.
The Sunday night rainfall is only expected to reach a high of 3mm — a very small sum compared to the 60mm of rain Sandgropers were pelted with last Sunday.
But the showers are just a small glimpse into the wet weather expected to hit Perth throughout next week, with a “significant” cold front moving across the area from Monday.
Bureau meteorologist Jessica Lingard told PerthNow that the front did have the potential to cause damage across the city.
“While this cold front is nowhere near as significant as the one we saw last Sunday, it still has a potential to cause damaging winds and heavy rain across the Perth area,” she said.
Forecasters anticipate nearly 40mm of rain will pour over the metropolitan area on Monday.
The front also brings a strong chance of thunderstorms to Perth, with locals warned to expect storms through Monday afternoon and evening.
“There is definitely a potential for wind or rain warnings to be issued on Monday due to this system, especially as storms commence,” Ms Lingard said.
Showers will continue through until late next week, with up to 15mm of rain forecast for Perth.
Ms Lingard urged Perth residents to monitor weather applications like the Bureau of Meteorology website for any warnings.
“The system last Sunday did cause significant damage, so its very important for Perth residents to stay up-to-date on the weather warnings and forecast,” she said.
