Few phone calls have brought GWS coach Adam Kingsley this much relief.
The Giants had already lost Stephen Coniglio with hamstring soreness in the second quarter of Sunday's AFL win over Melbourne.
It continued a run of hamstring problems at the Giants and Kingsley said the club would look at what is causing them.
All-Australian defender Sam Taylor was back for his first senior game this year, having also suffered a hamstring injury playing for Western Australia in the pre-season State of Origin game against Victoria.
When Taylor went off in the third quarter, holding the back of his leg, alarm bells were ringing loud in the GWS coaches' box.
But a call from the interchange bench quickly dropped their collective blood pressure.
"We're obviously really relieved it was cramp and they were pretty quick on the phone that it was only cramp, so that was nice," Kingsley said.
Taylor was just as anxious as he hobbled off the ground.
"It was a cramp. I've gone to the bench, stressing, and thank God, I got through," he told FoxSports.
Taylor was able to return and played out the game. While Kingsley said his form was "scratchy", it ended up a successful comeback.
"I was bloody tired, I was gassed - cramping in the third, but such a good win," Taylor said.
The Giants now have their mid-season bye and Kingsley said they could regain key forward Jesse Hogan after the break.
