Racing and Wagering WA officials will make a call on whether Saturday’s Ascot meeting goes ahead on Friday afternoon amid concerns over the extreme heat forecast.

The nine-race card, which has already been delayed to start at 2.28pm and finish at 7pm, could be postponed with the temperature expected to hit 40C.

Wednesday’s Belmont Park meeting was abandoned because of extreme heat.

“We’re going to make a decision on Friday afternoon,” RWWA deputy chief steward Harold Taylor said.

“It will either be run later in the day or the meeting will be moved.

“We need to get a more accurate and up to date prediction of the temperature from the Bureau Of Meteorology around midday.

“Once we get that we’ll have a talk to our vets and make a call.”

RWWA will consider running the Ascot meeting, which is headlined by the $100,000 Celebration Of Life Day Trophy (1500m), on Monday or Tuesday if it is not run on Saturday.

The fixture also includes the Magic Millions Plate (1100m), which will serve as an important lead-up race for juveniles targeting the $250,000 Magic Millions WA 2YO Classic (1200m) at Pinjarra on February 5.

Meanwhile, trainer Colin Webster has pencilled in the Listed WA Breeders’ Classic (1400m) at Pinjarra on Sunday week for Trix Of The Trade’s next start.

The boom three-year-old resumed with an emphatic 3-1/2 length win at Ascot last Saturday.

Webster has not received any offers from overseas or interstate bloodstock agents and he said owner-breeder Bill Robinson would almost certainly not entertain selling Trix Of The Trade.

Former jockey Ryan Hill trained his first winner when I’m All Miss bolted in on debut at Pinjarra on Thursday.
