The WACFL has announced its State country women’s squad ahead of next Friday night’s clash against the Perth Football League, with several notable omissions from the South West. While all SWFL players selected by new coach Gemma Harrison are enjoying excellent seasons and worthy of selection, incredibly, not a single player from in-form Bunbury or Busselton — clubs presently occupying second and fourth on the SWFL women’s table — was selected in the 22-strong squad alongside them. Some overlooked stars from these teams include: Kloe Bassett (Bunbury), Kimberley Nimmo (Bunbury), Shana-Lee Beardman (Bunbury), Maddy Obal (Busselton), Karyn Beeson (Busselton) and Gemma Wharton (Busselton) — all matchwinners in their own right with substantial representative/WAFLW experience. The seven SWFL-based players selected have all played critical roles in ensuring the SWFL has remained the only undefeated regional representative women’s football team in WA since the concept began. The match, which was initially due to be held at Fremantle Oval, is now likely to be held at Inglewood Oval. SWFL representatives: Bethany Bond, Trinity Brown, Jessica Ruland, Rachel Shepherd, Rachel Tilbrook, Charli Wicksteed, Jessica Verbrugge.
