SWFL 2022: Busselton and Augusta-Margaret River prepare for the second Busselton Toyota Cup of the season

Busselton are preparing to host Augusta-Margaret River for the second Busselton Toyota Cup of the season, with the intensity tipped to “go up a level” for the vital clash between South West heavyweights. The 2021 grand final replay is expected to be as tight as ever, with the Magpies and Hawks separated by just four points in fourth and second respectively on the ladder. Busselton where shock victors when the teams met in round 1, beating the reigning premiers 7.9 (51) to 4.6 (30) at Gloucester Park despite being comfortably beaten by 40 points in last year’s decider. Hawks coach Matt Jamieson said his side were taught a valuable lesson about attitude and discipline in the season opener. “We will obviously make sure we respect the opposition, unlike we did probably in round 1,” he said. “It was more an attitude thing and a discipline thing last time around, so we will ensure that that is right and the balance is right. “It is one of those things, you can probably be a bit comfortable with where you are at leading into round 1 after winning a grand final, so the boys definitely found out the hard way with a pretty ordinary performance first up.” AMR have lost just one game since that match — by 35 points to South Bunbury — and beat the Bunbury Bulldogs, who were previously undefeated by 77 points at the weekend. Busselton coach Daniel Delaney said he made the trip down to Margaret River to watch the top-of-the-table clash at the weekend, and it left him expecting a much stronger showing from the Hawks this time. “There is no doubt about it that AMR are hitting their straps now, and were going to have to be on our game now to upset them, but we are fairly confident without a doubt,” he said. “We match up well with them, and if we are on, it will be a good game, that is for sure. “Derbies are where things go up a level.” Bouncedown will be at 4:30 pm at Bovell Park in Busselton on Saturday.
