SWFL 2022: Eaton Boomers will not reinvent the wheel prior to Brunswick Oval showdown

Despite recording a stirring 14-point win over Busselton last Sunday to keep their top-five hopes alive, the Eaton Boomers did not elect to blast the Bee Gees’ smash hit Stayin’ Alive from their rooms following the win. Instead, Boomers coach Darren Rigby and his players were content to stick with what they know best — sticking to a routine and shielding themselves from outside noise. In order to play finals, the Boomers need to beat Harvey-Brunswick-Leschenault at Brunswick Oval on Saturday afternoon. If they lose, their season ends. Should they win, the Harvey Bulls would need to defeat Busselton later in the afternoon at Sir Stewart Bovell Park in order to retain fifth spot. Given the nature of when both games will finish and start, the Bulls will likely know by quarter time of their clash against the Magpies how the Boomers have fared. However Rigby is not worried about what ifs or what could be for his side. He and his team only care about what is directly in front of them. “Obviously with what has happened around the place recently — in terms of the fact I am not continuing next year — some people may have thought that might have been too much of a distraction,” Rigby said. “But I do not think so. We certainly do not take onboard too much of what is said outside of our group. “We have not changed the way we have done that (pre-game routine) for the entire year. We do not over-complicate it in regards to me talking to the group — a lot of that work should be done during the week as far as I am concerned.”
