SWFL 2023: SWFL colts coach Brett Maguire relishes return to coaching with talented representative group

Since mutually parting company as Carey Park league coach last season, Brett Maguire has been able to relax and look at football from a different perspective. While enjoying his free time away from club duties at times, the coaching bug continued to nibble away at him. By Maguire’s own admissions, being involved with the SWFL colts program once again was important, but being crowned 2023 CBH Group colts championship winners over the Great Northern Football League on Friday in Pinjarra? “I found building a group and working with the coaches on what we’d learnt to be rather rewarding,” he said. “I think the other thing to, is with a younger age group, you sort of get instant reward if you put a bit of time in to them and they give it back. “William Pedley is a prime example of that. “Lots of people out there maybe had positives and negatives on William, but we backed ourselves with him and he was our number one ruckman and finished up as player of the carnival, so it was good for him to get some reward.” Friday’s one-point victory was the SWFL’s 17th A-Section title since the carnival’s inception in 2000, and ended Peel’s recent reign of dominance.
