Firebirds go six points clear after comprehensive home win over Mandurah City

The South West Firebirds’ bid for the Hyundai women’s State league title gained further momentum last Sunday, after they thrashed Mandurah City 5-0 at Onside Sports Stadium in Bunbury.
With the victory, Stephen Suttie’s side are now six points clear on top of the table and have a formidable +18 goal difference.
The Firebirds wasted little time in asserting their dominance against the visitors, with all of their goals coming in the first half. Along with Kai-Anna Prendergast scoring a brace, Ariana Longmore-Dawson also found the net for the second consecutive match.
In the SWSA premier women’s competition, Hay Park United appear to have one hand on the title already, despite only three weeks into the season.
United, who have versatile athletes such as Cat Waycott (basketball) and Maddy Obal (football) on their books, thrashed Dynamos 12-0 on Sunday.
Having scored 25 goals in their opening three games, it is fair to say goalkeepers from rival clubs may have a few sleepless nights leading up to their date against United’s strike force.
